National Diabetes Week is an annual week to raise awareness of diabetes, its prevalence, seriousness and its complications.  Did you know…

  • Over 1.7 million Australians are living with diabetes and a further 280 develop diabetes every day.
  • 2 million Australians are at high risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • Diabetes puts you at greater risk of heart disease, kidney disease, amputation and blindness.
  • Being overweight or obese puts you at greater risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • 1 in 3 Australian adults will develop diabetes in their lifetime.

You don’t have to be old or overweight. Diabetes can affect anyone. Click HERE to find out about our services for people with acute and chronic conditions or visit diabetesaustralia.com.au

GLCH staff reach out beyond their communities!

By | GLCH News | No Comments

In 2009, staff members suggested supporting a charity outside of the organisations service/catchment area with personal donations, fundraising or volunteering, but as part of a GLCH team effort. Staff were surveyed for charity ideas – and one Australian (the Royal Flying Doctors Service) and one overseas charity (the Tabitha Foundation) were chosen.

Staff can make voluntary contributions to these chosen charities via automatic payroll deductions and a cheque is presented to each charity at the end of every financial year. This year (2014/15) GLCH staff donated $3286 to the RFDS and $5131 to the Tabitha Foundation. Awesome work!
