Gippsland Lakes Complete Health (GLCH) is one week away from launching their new Walking Group for all Lakes Entrance residents on Wednesday 28 January.

Led by qualified fitness instructor Megan Bourne, the walking group will meet at GLCH twice a week ongoing on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9.30am. The group will head off on a leisurely stroll around the neighbourhood and return by 10.30 for a cuppa and a chat.

“You don’t need to be super fit to join the group – just keen to improve your health and fitness,” explained Ms Bourne. “The group caters for all abilities and fitness levels and is a great form of physical activity for people who are overweight, elderly or who haven’t exercised in a long time.”

If you’re looking to add a bit of fun and fitness to your lifestyle in 2015 then contact GLCH for more information on 5155 8300. “Sometimes just a walk alone in the fresh air is just what we need,” added Megan. “But if you’re just getting started and you’re not sure that you want to do all your walking on your own – or if you like the idea of having other people around to help you stay motivated – then come walk with us starting next Wednesday.”

Health benefits of walking:

Stronger bones and improved balance

  • Increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness
  • Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
  • Increased muscle strength and endurance
  • Reduced body fat.
