Maternal & Child Health : Services for parents of children aged 0-6

Our Maternal and Child Health service is free and available to all families with a child aged 0 to 6. The service provides a series of regular health checks, advice and information for families with a qualified Maternal and Child Health (MCH) nurse.

This may include:

A total of 10 free Maternal and Child Health appointments are recommended over four years at key ages and stages:

Additional appointments are available if required.

Gippsland Lakes Complete Health Lactation Consultants

One-on-one support from International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants to assist mothers with establishing and maintaining breastfeeding

Sleep and Settle Workshops

Interactive and personalised advice on understanding sleep. Workshops provided in-home via Zoom and in person at our location in Bairnsdale.

New Parents Group aims to support connecting first-time parents with other parents and their new babies over eight (8) sessions.

The sessions include:

  • Getting to know each other
  • Sleep and settle
  • Emotional health
  • Childhood development
  • Exercise and physical health
  • Introduction of solids
  • Baby massage and child safety
  • Baby Makes 3 (Wed. evenings).

Maternal and Child Health Line 

Victorian families can obtain extra support by calling the Maternal and Child Health Line on 13 22 29. This is a 24-hour telephone service staffed by qualified maternal and child health nurses.

The telephone line provides over-the-phone information, advice and referral to all families with young children.

Interpreters are available through the Translating Interpreter Service. Hearing and speech-impaired callers can connect to the National Relay Service (NRS).
