Gippsland Lakes Complete Health (GLCH) Social Support group ‘The Lounge Crew,’ celebrated their 10th-anniversary last week with a fantastic party marking a decade of friendship and fun adventures. Fairy lights, music, and delivery of custom donuts from Big Bears Donuts kicked off an evening to remember.

The group, which meets multiple times a week for social outings, exercise, life skills, and lots of adventures, was initially formed as a once-weekly respite and socialization session for local clients.

Gill Wheeler, the group’s original coordinator, and founder was present as a special guest at the celebration to reflect on the success and development of the program.

“We cannot underestimate the importance of socialising and being part of a group, and a group that supports everybody and allows them to be individuals,” Ms Wheeler said. “I’m so thrilled to have been a part of it, and I know it will still be here in another ten years.”

Social Support Coordinator Kaitlin Clegg presented all members with a personalised ‘VIP Certificate’ and expressed the importance of the local community involvement of the group.

Kaitlin says that whenever the Lounge Crew is out in the community, many people stop and chat. “It’s the five minutes a local yacht owner spends talking about his boat, the catch a fisherman shows them, the happy banter that business owners engage in, it’s all remembered and valued.

“We’re very fortunate to have so many places that look forward to seeing us for lunch dates and visits to their establishments. We have baristas who make us fantastic coffee and hot chocolate and people who give us a wave whenever we walk by their business. The sense of community the Lounge group feels in our amazing little town is so important to them, and it is so special for me to watch them grow in confidence.”

The Lounge Crew members said they would like to thank GLCH for supporting their group and the local community for being so inclusive. In their opinion, Lakes Entrance is the best place in the world to live, and they look forward to another ten years of exploring the area and seeing friendly locals every week!
