The Uluru Statement from the Heart invites all Australians to “walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders” towards a better future and calls for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to be enshrined in the Constitution. The Board and Management of Gippsland Lakes Complete Health support the YES vote for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum. Establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice is a crucial step towards a more inclusive and equitable society where Indigenous Australians’ unique perspectives and experiences are fully recognised and valued. We recognise that there are some concerns about the practicalities of implementing the Voice, including the structure and composition of the Voice itself.

However, these issues can and should be addressed through open and respectful dialogue with First Nations peoples and their representatives. We believe an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice is a vital first step towards reconciliation and healing for our country and self-determination for Indigenous Australians.
