Family Services
This service provides practical support, information and advice to families with children up to the age of 18 years who are experiencing a range of difficulties .
We can help families having difficulties with:
- Alcohol and drug issues
- Financial hardship
- Parenting challenges
- Difficulty managing your household
- Family conflict or family violence
- Mental health issues
- Relationship issues
- Social isolation
- Repeated contact with DHHS Child Protection
We can help you to:
- Improve family relationships
- Access child care services
- Access extra-curricular and social activities for your children
- Improve your parenting and household management skills
- Improve your understanding of your child's development
- Work with services already involved with your family, such as schools, psychiatric services and DHHS - Child Protection
- Access other services provided at GLCH or elsewhere, such as counselling, housing support, financial counselling, maternal and child health and youth services.

When you contact us about our social support and counselling services, or are referred to us, the first person you talk to is usually part of our assessment and response team. They will:
- take or confirm your contact details
- talk to you about, and assess, your needs
- give you information about our services and your rights and responsibilities as a client of GLCH
- organise an appointment for you or arrange for a service to contact you
- provide information and referral to services outside of GLCH as necessary
- provide assistance to meet any immediate need
