21-27 October was OT Week, which is an annual campaign designed to reflect on and promote the value of Occupational Therapy (OT).

Occupational therapy supports people of all ages and abilities to better engage in the activities that they enjoy. OT Week, therefore, is an opportunity to acknowledge this life-changing work that occupational therapists do, to help people gain even more enjoyment from the leisure, self-care and productive activities that choose to participate in.

“OTs can help people of all ages who are experiencing challenges participating in their daily activities. This could include completing self-care tasks, fine motor skills, managing learning difficulties, or exploring modifications and equipment that can make life easier and more comfortable while in the home,” explains Angela Ellis, executive manager of the Community Health & Services Unit at Gippsland Lakes Community Health.

She adds, “And, what many people don’t realise is that referrals are not required to see an OT, so that makes it really easy to access help and support.”
