Living with persistent pain can affect every part of a person’s life, from work and relationships to sleep, confidence and wellbeing.
For the past 19 years, our physiotherapist Parivesh Kumar has been helping people across East Gippsland better understand their pain and regain confidence, independence and control.
This week, Parivesh has been shortlisted for a 2026 Victorian Rural Health Award in the Outstanding Contribution to Rural Allied Health category.
“The passion really came from frustration,” says Parivesh.
As a pain educator, he helps people understand that pain is about much more than an injury or a body part. Through education, support and practical strategies, he works with people to reduce fear, build confidence and find ways to keep doing the things that matter most to them.
“Pain is not just about a joint or a body part. It’s about the whole human experience and one of the body’s natural protective mechanisms for survival and recovery.”
Parivesh works closely with GPs, psychologists, pharmacists, dietitians and exercise physiologists to provide holistic, evidence-based care.
“Pain places a huge burden not just on individuals, but on families, communities and the health system.”
His impact extends well beyond East Gippsland. Through Pain Revolution, he mentors clinicians across Australia, has contributed to the Modern Pain Science Curriculum at Federation University’s Gippsland campus, published research in the Australian Journal of Rural Health, and continues to further his studies in pain science.
We know the difference Parivesh makes in the lives of the people he supports every day, and we’re thrilled to see his dedication recognised on a state stage.
Congratulations, Parivesh, and good luck when the winners are announced online this Thursday.
