Did you know that around 40 percent of Australians will experience some form of foot problems in their lifetime¹?  What do you do to look after your feet?  Do you even think about them and how important they are in keeping you active and healthy?

The podiatry team at Gippsland Lakes Complete Health (GLCH) spend a lot of time thinking about feet (not in a weird way) and foot health and think it’s time to educate community members on the long-term benefits of taking care of their feet. From children to seniors to athletes and people with chronic illness, a visit to the podiatrist can have a positive impact on people’s lives.

“Our podiatry team are experts in foot and lower limb health,” explained Angela Ellis, executive manager of community services.  “They assess, diagnose and prescribe treatment plans so you can continue living an active, pain-free lifestyle.”

Podiatrists are essential to getting people moving and active, preventing injuries and prolonging healthy lives. According to the Australian Podiatry Association, the demand for podiatric care in Australia has increased significantly in recent years. Contributing factors include our aging population and the increase in the number of Australians diagnosed with Diabetes. For example, did you know an astounding 4,400 diabetic amputations occur in Australia every year? Most of which can be prevented through podiatric care.

GLCH recently welcomed a second podiatrist, Tom Williams, to their highly trained and dedicated team of foot care professionals.

Growing up in North East Victoria, Tom understands how important feet are in day to day living and gets great satisfaction in keeping people on their feet. He enjoys all aspects of podiatry including general foot care, chronic disease management, footwear and orthotic therapy.

Outside of podiatry Tom enjoys taking part in football, cricket, long distance running and enjoying everything that East Gippsland has to offer.

Tom joins Amanda Hack and podiatry qualified allied health assistants, Sue Mitchell and Casey Howarth whose ‘sole’ aim is to keep people on their feet!

Anyone (public or private) can see the podiatry team at GLCH by appointment. TAC, Workcover, DVA My Aged Care or NDIS referrals are also welcome. Contact GLCH for further information and appointments or visit www.glch.org.au.
